Do this now
Run the fix in this order
- 01
Turn the first waves into Defense XP
Use spike traps early and let them score kills. Multiple players say Defense progression is what opens the stronger chainsaw setup.
- 02
Give zombies something durable to hit
Place sandbags across the approach to the door and window. One tested layout uses a five-tile row; other players report smaller rows working on earlier loops, so treat the count as a starting pattern rather than a magic number.
- 03
Stagger damage around the blockers
Start with spikes, then replace or alternate them with chainsaw traps once unlocked. The blockers buy time while the traps deal damage.
- 04
Separate combat power from fair-weather power
Charge storage between waves with solar, but keep fuel or rat-wheel generation available for rainy attack days. Community reports conflict on the best generator mix; redundancy is the stable lesson.
- 05
Read the power panel when a rat cage stops
If a rat cage stops generating power because Food is depleted, the current build notifies you and the Power Panel explains why. Solar Panel generation now matches actual calculations and explains zero production; use those signals before changing the layout.
- 06
Prepare for a cold-wave warning
If a cold-wave warning appears, the official v1.0.14911 notes say to set up the fuel-burning Heater before temperature drops; its published materials are Sheet Metal and Wire, with quantities left to the live recipe. Since v1.0.15369, the heating task completes when Home has any one heating method: Electric Heater, fireplace, or Air Conditioning.
- 07
Stage the repair loop before the warning expires
Carry both door and window repair kits. Put a cabinet with extra kits, prepared food, energy drinks, and medicine close to the entrance so the defense loop does not become a supply run.
- 08
Use Molotovs on density, not single stragglers
Throw when the crowd stacks behind the blockers. Players consistently describe Molotovs as a way to remove weaker zombies and reduce incoming structure damage.
Keep beside the run
Field notes that change the decision
Update before diagnosing wall hits or Drone status
Build 1.0.16756 fixes defense-device hit detection through walls and a Drone-at-Home status bug after dispatching another Drone. Update and re-check these symptoms before rebuilding your defenses; the patch does not guarantee that an underpowered setup will hold.
First-loop failure is not proof the layout is wrong
Several players describe Day 48+ as substantially easier after rebirth upgrades. The guide is a setup pattern, not a promise that an under-leveled first loop will hold.
Five repair kits each is a tested buffer
One player recommends five door and five window kits. Carry more if your trap damage or reinforcement level is lower.
Solar is an economy tool, not your only combat source
One detailed run warns that later hordes coincide with rain. Another player reports rat power working when sunlight fails.
Shield of the Street is a separate challenge
After 50 days, all three protagonists can trigger this separate support series when survivors at some trading posts send distress messages. Deploy a Drone to lure the zombie swarm to Home, then defend multiple waves that increase in size; the trading post survivors send support supplies in return. Completing that defense reaches the Shield of the Street challenge ending. Build 1.0.15876 now resolves the crisis immediately after the final wave, blocks new distress calls during a Drone lure countdown, keeps other Home Drones available, and removes defensive-support challenges from Endless Mode. This is not the ordinary Day 48–50 horde route or the Military Repair Kit ending routes.
NG+ front-door upgrades skip their tasks
In New Game Plus and later, build 1.0.15690 lets you use the Front Door's Advanced Repair and Advanced Reinforcement directly without completing the corresponding tasks. This access change is separate from the ordinary Day 48–50 defense loop.

What this page will not pretend to know
- Exact trap counts change with difficulty, loop bonuses, Defense level, and home layout.
- The community thread contains exploit and duplication discussion; this guide excludes those routes.
- No official table currently confirms per-wave power draw or zombie counts; the September 4 note also does not publish an exact wave count or reward table.
